$12,000

This turn of the century antique Persian Hamadan rug features an all-over design of diamond-shaped floral and geometric abstractions in shades of pink, green and orange against a field of gold. A multicolored border of repeating geometric shapes against a dark blue background completes the look of this antique carpet runner. Produced in Hamadan, one of the oldest cities in Persia, this antique carpet is part of one of the most diverse Oriental weaving centers.

Hamadan typically produced fine, coarse Persian rugs runner made with the symmetric Ghiordes knot, with prevailing angular designs – although arabesques and curvilinear motifs also abound. Incorporating rich blue and dark scarlet hues contrasted by soft neutrals, these antique beautiful rugs draw extensively upon the tribal weaving traditions of Iran. Antique Hamadan rugs such as this early 20th century piece feature curvilinear designs of central Persia and angular symbols of the Caucasus, and remain a favorite with collectors and designers.
