One-of-a-kind Oversized Antique Persian Kirman Handmade Wool Rug BB6026 15'7" × 25'4" $150,000
$150,000
This circa-1920 antique Persian Karastan Kirman rug consists of an all-over design of repeating diamond shapes (containing such common Oriental carpet weaving motifs as the herati pattern and the boteh) in shades of beige against a field of midnight blue where geometric and floral abstractions curl around the main design. Multiple borders containing floral patterns and quatrefoils in complementary shades of beige and dark blue complete the look of the antique carpet.
Antique Kirman antique carpets are sought-after collectors’ items for a number of reasons, including their broad range of designs, an elaborate palette, use of natural dyes and fibers, great tensile strength and expert color combinations. The oversized area rugs are typically cotton-foundation with high knot densities, and frequently have intricate all-over floral patterns – as seen in this particular rug. Golam Hussein, Sherefat Khan and Arjomand are among the most well-known 20th century Kirman designers.
