Vintage Oushak Runner BB5183 3'0" × 20'3" $22,000
$22,000
This Oushak rug is a remarkable visual example of why these kinds of artisanal level antique oriental rugs and carpetsare coveted and cherished. The open field of this antique Turkish rug displays a staggered, laterally repeating design pattern of arabesque, coat-of-arms florid and tendril motifs. There are spindly, abstract vine scrolls, palmette and branch designs throughout the field. These open field patterns, designs and shapes are colored green, grey and khaki. The field is colored a fully saturating tone of earth-tone khaki. The guard border is thin and grey colored. The main border features a repeating, abstract palmette and branch styled pattern.
Many weaving centers have produced runners specifically for narrow spaces, adapting their age old designs to suit this specific format. Perhaps the most renowned weavers of antique runner rug were the Bidjar tribe of Northern Iran whose sturdy weavings withstand the wear and tear of stair treads and busy passageways.
