Vintage Turkish Oushak Runner ( size adjusted) BB5424 2'5" × 27'2" $25,000

Together with KilimsOushak rugs are among most popular types of antique Turkish carpets. Oushak rugs are traditionally classified as Anatolian, making them a part of Turkish rug family. The earlier types of Oushak carpets, are often called “Lotto carpets” and “Holbein carpets”, as they appeared in the paintings by Lorenzo Lotto and Hans Holbein the Younger. Until the eighteenth century,  most popular designs for Oushak rugs were ‘medallion’ and ‘star’, often depicted in jewel tones of brick red, terracotta, deep blue and gold. VintageOushak rugs can be characterized by their  rather loose knots, which result a fairly long pile.

Stunning design of this vintage Oushak runner is a true feast for the eyes. It was hand knotted by a skilled craftsman in the early 20th century, circa 1900. The pattern visible on the pile includes a beautiful geometric composition inspired by traditional Turkish rugs. The whole is framed by a thin border adorned with a delicate floral pattern. Color palette of this piece includes mostly vivacious jewel tones such as red and yellow with just a tinge of blue and black to balance them out.

The size of this Oushak runner,  2’5″ × 27’2″ (74 × 828 cm), makes it a perfect addition to any household. Here at Doris Leslie Blau we take a great pride in what we do and nothing makes us happier than the knowledge that our hard work is appreciated by both our clients and countless interior design magazines, such as Architectural Digest or Vogue.
