Vintage Swedish Rug BB4875
The reason why Scandinavian rugs are so eagerly sought after is simple. Few other types of antique rugs and vintage carpets can rival their stunning designs, inspired by both tradition and modernity. Versatility of vintage Swedish rugs makes them a great choice for any style of interior, however, nothing makes them as special as their superb craftsmanship. Flat woven Swedish rugs are made by interlocking warp (vertical) and weft (horizontal) threads. This results in a rug with no pile, making them much thinner than traditional rugs, but also lighter and easier to maintain.
This gorgeous vintage Swedish rug was woven in the mid 20th century, circa 1940. What certainly draws the eye is the boldness of its design, combined with a very traditional approach to weaving. The pattern consists of a series of lines, which create a beautiful composition made of serrated diamonds. Stripes overlaying the main field and those under it, create almost a 3D effect and surprise with the amount of detail present on them. Color palette of this piece consist of various shades of forest green combined with a bit of blue, beige and orange. The size of this piece, 6’7″ × 9’6″ (201 × 290 cm), is a perfect choice for any type of accommodation, from an apartment to elegant office.
