Antique Beige and Brown Geometric Motif Persian Bakhtiari Rug BB5418 5'10" × 8'1" $20,000
$20,000
This magnificent rug shows the excellence of genuine Persian craftsmanship. It was made by the Bakhtiari tribe inhabiting the southwest part of Iran. Although initially Bakhtiari carpets were woven solely by the nomads, the most recognizable, qualitative and authentic examples of these textiles are manufactured by the settled communities of Bakhtiari in the west central Iran, southwest of Isfahan, Chahar Mahaal and Bakhtiari.
The mesmerizing piece before your eyes builds upon the most traditional and famous Bakhtiari design – Khesti , the garden motif. The main field carries a decorative medallion containing cypresses, trees of life and geometricized palmettes – such a design is an allusion to the afterlife and expresses hope for life after death. The borders adorned with flowering vines and geometric motifs complement the main field. Everything is rendered in a soothing color palette of beiges and browns that will seamlessly and elegantly match any kind of décor.
This balanced design was thoroughly hand-knotted of the finest wool by a skilled weaver. Due to such masterful making in accordance with centuries-long techniques, the rug survived over a hundred years without any signs of wear or damage and it will most certainly serve its lucky owners for generations. It has a chance to introduce the atmosphere of an Oriental palace to both classic and contemporary abodes.
