The Art Deco style pile rug by Barbro Nilsson woven in three parts provenance Villa Buller Backen Lidingo dating back circa 1948. It is in excellent original condition, consistent with age. The rug displays a vertical, beige shaded, wavy design with two thin, horizontal, mint stitches and two broad vertical panels with tribal Scandinavian motifs along the both sides. The composition is surrounded by solid dark brown border. The rug is rendered in beige, taupe, mint and brown.
Barbro Nilsson was early educated in weaving and dyeing and went on to become the head of textile at Konstfack in Stockholm, Sweden. She did several monumental tapestries in collaboration with contemporary artists and between 1942-1970 she managed the Märta Måås-Fjetterström weaving studio in Båstad. Barbro Nilsson is one of the most influential and well-known textile artists of the mid-century.
