Vintage Samarkand Rug BB6470 4'7" × 9'0" $12,000
$12,000
Although its name translates harshly as “stone fort”, Samarkand is a weaving center that has given life to many outstanding and graceful creations which captured the attention of collectors and designers around the world. This vintage rug is a paragon of the remarkable Samarkand craftsmanship that exhibits the uniqueness, diversity and quality of textiles coming from the oasis town. Its main field is covered with an allover, slightly geometric pattern of pomegranates which are the oriental symbol of fertility and prosperity.
The message of affluence is enclosed within a series of borders adorned with geometric motifs and two kinds of flowering climbers, one delicate and floral, the other one incorporating crosses – the attributes of protection. The color palette heavily relies on subtle tones of beige, camel, ivory and caramel with stronger touches of dark brown . Such versatile and balanced composition will most certainly match a wide array of interior décors, from classic to contemporary.
The enchanting design is followed by a masterful execution –the vintage Samarkand rug was meticulously hand-knotted of the first-rate wool according to traditional Persian techniques. If properly maintained, the antique carpet will serve its owners for generations, as it already has for over 60 years without any signs of wear.
Exclusive collection of antique, vintage, Persian rugs including our famous collection of large area rugs by Doris Leslie Blau.
