Samarkand (translated as “Stone Fort”) is a weaving center that issued some of the most iconic and sought-after rug designs in the world. Samarkand rugs are flowers born in the arid landscape of Central Asia that can become statement pieces in your décor.

The vintage rug before your eyes, made circa 1950, is a classic example of Samarkand craft. Its main field carries five big medallions accompanied by smaller ones on both sides. The composition is embraced by a border with geometric motifs. Everything is rendered in a muted and slightly abrashed color palette featuring brown and beige with green undertones. The abrasion results from the use of natural dyes and traditional dyeing techniques.

The vintage rug was carefully hand-knotted of high-quality wool in accordance with centuries-old techniques. If properly maintained, it will serve its owners for generations without any signs of wear.
