Antique Spanish Quenca Rug BB6751 11'1" × 16'1" $100,000
$100,000
Antique Spanish rugs are among most sought-after types of carpets and for a good reason. Elegant and tasteful, antique rugs can make any household special with just their presence. After all, nothing says “prestige” like a Spanish carpet. Cuenca (or Quenca) rugs have a very special place in Spanish culture. All of them were handwoven in the city of Cuenca, located between Madrid and Valencia, and gained a substantial fame due to their beauty. This piece certainly stands out amongst all antique rugs not only due to its design but also superb craftsmanship.
Made in the early 18th century, this Spanish rug was handwoven with great care and dedication to the craft. Not a line is out of place, making it a true masterpiece. The color palette picked by the weaver consists of tones that would normally contrast with each other. Sunny orange is juxtaposed with indigo and sandy beige, but all of them seem to complement each other. The overall pattern features serrated leaves, palmettes within a playful curving leaves and vinery border. This exotic composition bears similarity to some Oriental rugs, despite being a European carpet.
The impressive size of this piece, 11’1″ × 16’1″ (338 × 490 cm), makes it a perfect choice for a larger accommodation or maybe an office that needs some classic elegance to make the decor click.
