Antique Persian Meshad Bold Botanic Red Handmade Wool Rug BB4977 9'9" × 12'10" $18,000
$18,000
Persian rugs are one of Iran’s greatest treasures. Iran is famed for the exquisite talent of local weavers and ancient weaving traditions, which can be traced back to antiquity and early Medieval times. Most Persian carpet-weaving villages located on terrain were a part of the Persian Empire and thus have their own original patterns, developed through centuries.
This stunning antique Persian rug was woven in the city of Meshad in the early 20th century, circa 1920. The design features a central field with an all over floral pattern, which immediately draws the eye. The whole is framed by a delicate palmette vinery border, which helps to balance out this otherwise opulent composition. The color palette contains mostly earthy shades of brown and warm shades of red, enhanced with a small specks of blue.
