$12,000
Heavily inspired with the Moroccan tribal weaving, this custom rug exhibits a modern approach to this traditional art. Design-wise the whole composition refers strongly to one distinct group of carpets from Morocco, namely to Beni Ourain Moroccan style rugs.
They are distinguished by an extremely characteristic pattern of diamonds, which usually covers the entire field, sometimes comprising of some smaller symbols and motifs within the rhombuses or at the opposite ends of a carpet. It happens that the pattern changes somewhere in one third of the field and becomes uneven or lax, just as if a weaver got bored in the act of making. However, the real reason behind it is a belief that only Allah can be perfect and all other things should consist of minor flaws to emphasize God’s supremacy.
Beni Ourains comprise of high, often shaggy pile and are made of fine wool. They constituted a significant inspiration to the 20th century designers and continue to influence the world of interior decoration. In case of this modern carpet tiles, main features remain unchanged – the pile is soft, hand-made of the best quality wool. The pattern is composed of traditional rhombuses – a symbol of protection against the Evil Eye in the tribal beliefs – with tiny motifs within each diamond. The color palette, just as it is customary, comprises of only two hues – brown and blue.
This is quite an unusual choice of colors for Beni Ourains as they rather occur in beige and brown. The design of this contemporary rug is even, but there is a trim at both ends of the field. It will be a perfect choice for any interior, from classic to modern.
