Hollywood Glamour: Art Deco rugs deliver the glitz

Sotheby’s Designer Showhouse 2015 is a resplendent feat of art and antiques put together by 13 of the most talented designers around. Alyssa Urban of the AD100 firm Cullman & Kravis built a beautiful living room on top of our dramatic Jacques Adnet Art Deco rug from the 1930s.  See a time lapse of her stunning work here.

The rug, pictured above, was made around 1930, and it epitomizes the simple motifs rendered with utter elegance that French modernist Jacques Adnet was known for.

We love the timeless glamour of the space Alyssa created. The rug itself makes for  a rich, red grounding statement, and the decorative furniture and elements built on top work in concert for a space that’s swoon-fully opulent.

There’s something about the unapologetically decorative aesthetic of Art Deco rugs that always harkens back to the classic movie era. Even if you plan to fill a space with more contemporary furnishing, an Art Deco rug can lend a glamorous boost.

Here are a few more lovely Art Deco rugs from our vintage collection:

Another rich red field with sumptuous, decorative framework.

All florals and pretty greens – this carpet’s neat geometry gives it its modernist flare.

So much that’s unusual and so much to love in this piece – notice the central design pushes past the geometric framing, and the modernist floral motifs are reminiscent of a French Aubusson rug.

Here’s a French Deco piece with a more minimal design, a bit reminiscent of Moroccan rugs, but for the deep red coloring.

This decadent floral design is by French craftsman and Art Deco artisan Paul Follot.

This stunning beauty is a singular work of Art Deco excellence. The central design calls to mind a magnificent pendant, or perhaps a spider web, or both. What’s for sure is that it bears up a bevy of uncommon beauty – a true statement piece.
