Wilton Carpets

At the end of the 19th century the industry has significantly developed which accelerated the mass production of rugs which started to flood the whole world.

This was happening in almost every bigger city where a factory could be created as that in Wilton from which the well-known types of rugs come. And it is hard to find a person in Europe who had not come across to such a rug. It’s a popular model which used to lay on not one floor.

Wilton was flooding the East. People bought them to their houses in masse. What above all deserved to pay attention to, were the colors of that collection which fit were appropriate for the majority of rooms. The soft shades of brown, grey, beige created abstract patterns. It is Met until today when it comes to people who already are long in the tooth- it is worth getting interested in such a finding instead of throwing it out immediately, as many young people do.

Wilton used to be produced mechanically by thousands of spinning wheels putting threads to the mechanical loom weaving the rug according to the pattern chosen for it. Work was going quickly with less force needed but not without restriction which influenced the look of the rug- because of using the machines, a rug may maximally consist of 10 colors.

Producing such a rug took around an hour which of course translated into its price much lower than the manually weaved one’s which can be produced for several months or even years- it all depends on the plan. That is why it was so popular at that time which in fact is with it until today- the price and value.

The manually weaved rugs, as Wilton consist of viscose, wool, polypropylene, cotton, chenille, jute.

Back then, a rug was only supposed to make it warmer at home or in a tent. It was used on the original purpose and, it would be hard for someone at time to imagine how precious and desired this item can be in several years. Now, everyone can afford a rug of this kind. Everything due to the development of technology which contributed to the popularisation of rugs and distinguished – the one weaved mechanically, for everyone, and the ones weaved manually which are real art and cost a great deal of money.
