Choosing a Rug

Aptly chosen rug can literally enchant the interior. And vice versa. Poor choice of floor coverings can ruin the beauty of the room. I will try to hint what to do to not waste your money or time.

Admit it. When you arrange the room, the first thing that preoccupies your mind is the choice of color of the walls, the type of furniture or further decoration… and the carpet often becomes of secondary importance. And this is, unfortunately, often committed mistake. Well, carpet is one of the largest carriers of patterns and colors in the room and at the same time it is the foundation of the whole visual space while playing a huge role in its functionality and comfort. So maybe it is worth to take a closer look at how this important element of the decor can skillfully manipulate the entire interior styling?

How to choose the color? We adhere to generally accepted principles of combining colors, while bearing in mind the following two principles: bright carpet visually enlarge the room, while dark ones will reduce it, while at the same time making it more cozy. Definitely consider the purpose of the room. Very bright carpet in the entrance hall or in the dining room will be more often hosted in the laundry than on our floor. Yet a minor point for holders of monochrome interiors: colorful room size rugs are the best way to revitalize your interior without losing the seriousness of what has been attributed to the subdued colors of the rest of the decor.

Generally, it is recommended to purchase room size rugs with low fleece (easy vacuuming), high grammage (resistance to deformation) and with silicone raise (rug “doesn’t wander”) for the maintenance and daily use to be easy and pleasant. Unfortunately, many people decide for thick carpets with high fleece hoping for a better aesthetic experience, which usually last until the first vacuuming or the first appearance of deformation and dirt – that is, after about a month. This “fluffy” form is suitable mainly for small walkways on which we will walk with our bare feet – eg. by the bed or in the bathroom.
