Turkish Oushak Rug BB8838 17'0" × 19'7" $95,000
$95,000
This monumental antique Turkish Oushak rests on a softly mottled ivory-beige field shot through with pale tan abrash, giving the surface a gently aged, sun-kissed patina. At its heart floats a faint, lozenge-shaped medallion—so subtle it almost dissolves into the ground—outlined by a delicate scattering of tiny stepped motifs in faded rose-terracotta. Across the field, an all-over sprinkling of miniature rosettes, angular leaves, and abstract palmettes in warm coral-red and soft brown drifts in an open, irregular rhythm, lending an airy, almost weightless quality to the design. A broad main border frames the composition with a running chain of large, serrated palmettes and stylized lotus heads in terracotta and muted rust, linked by slender vine tendrils on an ivory-beige ground. This is flanked on either side by narrow guard stripes of miniature “S-scroll” vines and geometric stars in matching hues, and the whole is edged by a slim selvedge in deep ochre-brown. Hand-knotted in wool with a low, even pile, the rug displays gentle wear and subtle color variations—abrash—that underscore its century-plus age and artisanal origins. Its vast scale and softly muted palette make it an ideal anchor for grand spaces.
