Authentic Turkish Ghiordes Red Handmade Wool Rug

A late 19th century Turkish Ghiordes (Giordes) antique carpet. The fuchsia pink field with delicate floral sprays overall around a scalloped celadon green medallion containing stylized vinery and baby-pink and caramel floral motifs. Ornate corners and a thin celadon floral vinery border.

Turkish rugs from the Anatolian town Ghiordes are known for their rectilinear, colorful, multi-bordered antique patterns. Ghiordes rugs often have open fields with mihrabs or hanging lamps and stylized architectural motifs that are found on sixteenth and seventeenth century Ottoman court rugs.
