Midcentury Turkish Flat-Weave Wool Runner in Deep Brown and White Stripes BB5784 3'1" × 10'2" $6,000
$6,000
This circa-1930 vintage flat-weave Turkish runner rug features a bold design of striated shades of brown and beige, with ivory white and black horizontal lines standing in stark contrast to the muted background. It is both minimalist and representative of the rich Turkish carpet weaving tradition. The Turkish carpet is distinguished from other Oriental styles by particular characteristics of dyes and colors, designs and textures.
Antique Anatolian kilim features the Turkish, or symmetrical knot and are typically made of wool and cotton. Distinct types of carpets have been woven since the 13th century in workshops, provincial weaving facilities, as well as in villages, tribal settlements or by nomads. The flat weave is created from vertical (weft) and horizontal (warp) interlocked threads, for a napless overall effect. Runner antique rugs such as this antique Turkish piece are often used as a compliment or a contrast to Turkish kilim rugs, or as the transition linking two separate rooms.
