Finding two identical antique Persian rugs is almost impossible. All of Doris Leslie Blau’s antique rugs are handmade, ensuring their uniqueness. Persian rugs are one of Iran’s greatest treasures. The whole of Iran is famed for the exquisite talent of local weavers and ancient weaving traditions, which can be traced back to antiquity and early Medieval times. Most Persian carpet-weaving villages located on terrain were a part of the Persian Empire and thus have their own original patterns developed through centuries.
This stunning antique Persian rug was woven in the city of Meshad in the late 19th century, circa 1880. Both its pattern and astonishing quality are marks of a true master, suggesting that weaver of this Persian rug must have been a very talented person. The pattern features a central field decorated with a neatly arranged floral vinery and palmette trellis of exceptional beauty. The whole is framed by a delicate palmette vinery border, which helps to balance out this otherwise opulent composition. The color palette contains mostly earthy shades of brown and brilliant blues, all kept in cool shades.
The size of this stunning antique Persian rug, 10’2″ × 16’0″ (310 × 488 cm),makes it a perfect choice for any interior, from a traditional living room to a modern office.
