Bessarabian Rug BB0160 12'3" × 14'8" $75,000
$75,000
This Bessarabian kilim rug was woven in 19th century Ottoman-ruled Bessarabia, or regions of present day Moldova and Romania. This masterfully woven rug is a flat weave. It features a medallion that is segmented into quadrants showcasing intricate orange, red and green floral design accents. Note the geometrically regal and floral designs in the corner brackets of this antique kilim rug. The very light, earth tone color of the field highlights and accentuates the tiny green and dark colored branches occupying the field. The crenulated guard border is decorated with box-shaped, geometrically intertwined and intricate designs within the corners. This design visually indents an ornate and floral style motif within the length of the guard border. Between the guard and main border is a thin, red-earth colored, buffer guard that is overlaid with a line of pearl-like patterns.
