Antique Persian Tabriz Beige Brown Handwoven Wool Rug BB8529 11'4" × 17'3" $60,000
$60,000
This antique Persian Tabriz rug features an all-over field of repeating geometric shapes and floral arabesques in light beige on a field of dark brown. A rectangular main border in the same beige hue continues the design of delicate abstractions. A herati design can be noted throughout – an element of Persian carpets featuring the repeated pattern of four leaf-like figures woven around a diamond shape. The famous textile-manufacturing city of Tabriz, the Azerbaijani-populated province in the north west of Iran, boasts one of the oldest Persian rug weaving centers in the world and produces carpets characterized by having an especially fine knot density (indicative of high quality hand-knotted rugs). An Tabriz antique rug can be made of cotton or silk and woven as a pile carpet or flat-weave. A refined palette reliant on copper tones, terracotta and ivory, with shades of blue and subtle touches of gold, green and salmon are prevalent in these carpets.
