Antique Tabriz Rug in Blue and Brown BB5473 12'2" × 16'5" $58,000
$58,000
A turn of the century product, this antique Persian Tabriz rug features an elaborate design of botanical abstractions and stylized birds in shades of sharp blue and brown against a field of beige. A main border in dark blue, containing such Oriental antique carpet staples as the boteh, surrounds the antique carpet. The famous textile-manufacturing city of Tabriz, the Azerbaijani-populated province in the north west of Iran, boasts one of the oldest Persian carpet weaving centers in the world and produces a large variety of carpets characterized by having an especially fine knot density. An antique Tabriz rug can be made of cotton or silk and woven as a pile carpet or flat-weave. A refined palette reliant on copper tones, terracotta and ivory, with shades of blue and subtle touches of gold, green and salmon are prevalent in these carpets.
