Tabriz Yellow, Red, Dark Blue and Bone White Handwoven Wool Rug BB6177 4'0" × 5'5" $3,000

$3,000

This circa-1920 antique Persian Tabriz carpets features a strikingly elaborate central medallion composed of floral abstractions in yellow, red and dark blue against a field of bone-white. Complementary colored corner brackets and multiple borders of floral motifs and arabesques complete the look of the antique carpet.

The famous textile-manufacturing city of Tabriz, the Azerbaijani-populated province in the northwest of Iran, boasts one of the oldest Persian rug weaving centers in the world and produces a large variety of carpets characterized by having an especially fine knot density (indicative of high quality hand-knotted antique rugs). An antique Tabriz rug can be made of cotton or silk and woven as a pile carpet or flat-weave. A refined palette reliant on copper tones, terracotta and ivory, with shades of blue and subtle touches of gold, green and salmon are prevalent in these carpets.
