$135,000
This striking circa-1880 antique Persian Malayer carpet features an all-over design of flowering vinery and stylized flowerhead trellis in shades of salmon, sand and blue against a field of dark blue. A camel border containing more flowerheads completes this bold antique rug. Antique Malayer carpets come from the city of Malayer in Iran near Hamadan and were, for the most part, created by individual weavers during the 19th and early 20th centuries.
Typically woven with a symmetric knot, the antique rugs and carpets often employ geometric medallion designs or herati patterns. Malayer rugs and carpets are singular in their broad range of designs and color palette, making them stunning artistic creations. The value of the Antique Persian rugs reflects their artistry in that the diversity of design and color is somewhat atypical for other styles of Persian rugs.
