Antique Early 20th Century Blue and Cream Hand-Knotted Wool Persian Kirman Rug BB6901 11'6" × 17'3" $90,000
$90,000
Every Kirman rug is a treasure waiting to be discovered. Just take a look at this stunning piece. Handwoven with upmost care, it dazzles with the complexity of its design. On the central field, we can see a meadow of exquisite flowers. You can almost feel the wind gently running between them. The pattern is balanced out by the frame surrounding it. While the floral motif on it is not as grand it is no less beautiful with delicate wreaths of small blossom and leaves. The color palette consists of pastel blue and peach with small elements of black.
Colors can range from ivory, blue, and magenta to a more golden and saffron cast. As unique as their designer, no two blue Persian rugs are precisely alike. Because of the tremendous demand for Kirman rugs, and because of the complex demographics of those generating the demand, a surprising variety of styles and designs were produced. While some Kirman rugs were woven explicitly for moneyed buyers from the West, there were also local consumers which only added to the diversity of the antique Persian rugs. This diversity is seen in the range of motifs which can range from well-known and original Persian motifs to western motifs; striped and repetitive motifs, vase, Toranj (Citron), symmetric, garden, animal shapes, and pictorial antique oriental rugs.
