Dasilva Bruhns Deco Rug BB6018 3'5" × 7'0"

This circa-1935 vintage Deco rug by Ivan da Silva Bruhns, signed by the artist, features several large brown geometric abstractions against a field of light beige. As a minimalist piece of modern decor, this rug is well-representative of both a renowned artistic tradition and a famed designer. Ivan da Silva Bruhns was influenced by Cubism and especially by Picasso, incorporating interlaced forms supported by simple motifs into both his paintings and textiles. He greatly influenced carpet design in Europe, at some point heading the House of LeLeu. This carpet is in the style of European Art Deco, which owes its name to the first major exhibition of decorative arts to be held after the First World War: L’Exposition Internationale des Arts Decoratifs et Industriels Modernes held in Paris in 1925. The elegance of the custom at the event has served as inspiration for interior designers the world over.
