Mid-20th Century French Art Deco, Bold, Green, Red, Yellow Handmade Wool Rug BB6271 6'0" × 7'0" $22,000
$22,000
An early 20th century Art Deco European deco rug. An elongated octagon with an anthracite border conceals a geometric mirage in cool colors. The central part of the composition is a rectangle in a true Art Deco style. Delicate beige forms the background for the mysterious crimson elements that are a prominent feature of the medallion. The crimson appears also in the outer part of this vintage rug. A harmoniously divided space is filled both with remarkable colors and exceptional forms of rectangles and stripes. The linear and triangular accents altogether add a pinch of pungency. Right there the unique character of this antique carpet is hidden.
Although younger than antique rugs, large vintage rugs are still one of the most sought-after kinds of woven goods.
Art Deco is a style of visual arts, architecture and design that first appeared in France just before World War I. The Art Deco movement led to a fast evolution of the rug and textile design, among other art forms. Rug design evolved from traditional floral and highly ornamental to a style of angular elegance with geometric, abstract and modern figurative motifs. The design is frequently spare, geometric, and architectural. The rugs created during this period remain elegant and refined to this day.
