Antique Turkish Oushak Floral Yellow, Red, Blue and Green Handwoven Wool Rug BB6023 8'1" × 19'9" $50,000
$50,000
This somewhat unusual circa-1920 antique Turkish Oushak rug has an all-over design that is a veritable cornucopia of bright color and exotic patterns. Arabesques and floral abstractions in eye-popping hues of yellow, red, blue and green make up the main pattern. A thick brown border containing serrated leaves and typical Oriental rug weaving motifs follows the perimeter of the narrow antique rug. Oushak rugs for sale are renowned for their silky, luminous wool and a weaving pattern that employs traditional tribal techniques, namely the use of larger knots and an all-wool foundation. As these works are often considered some of the finest Oriental Turkish carpets, many of the masterpieces of the 15th and 16th centuries have been attributed to the Oushak tradition. The late 19th century saw the rejuvenation of Oriental rug production. During this Renaissance, floral patterns in the Persian tradition were incorporated into design and decorative large area rugs were woven as European standards demanded.
