Flat woven vintage rugs are appear in almost every culture in the world, from Turkey to Peru, although Scandinavian rugs are one of the most popular carpets of this weave. There is no other type of vintage carpets like Swedish rugs. Everything about them, from designs to materials used for weaving, was deeply influenced by local traditions and helped to preserve them from being forgotten. Versatility of Swedish rugs makes them useful in many situations- flat woven rugs have been used for centuries not only as flooring, but also wall decorations, and saddle pads.
This stunning vintage Swedish rug was designed by Elsa Gullberg in the mid 20th century, circa 1950. Elegance of its design could only be rivaled by wonderful colors picked by Gullberg. The pattern is rather minimalist, as it features a very simple interlocking grid in the shape of Greek Key. At the top and bottom part the pattern is framed by a border with a very interesting geometric design. Gold yellow hue of the pile is complemented by some specks of beige, which help to bring out the natural light of this palette.
The size of this vintage Swedish rug, 4’0″ × 5’10” (122 × 178 cm), is perfect for any type of interior. Here at Doris Leslie Blau we take a great pride in what we do and nothing makes us happier than the knowledge that our hard work is appreciated by both our clients and countless interior design magazines, such as Architectural Digest or Vogue.
