Amy Lau

Arizona native Amy Lau founded her interiors firm in 2001. She also currently serves as an independent advisor to collectors of 20th Century decorative arts.

Following her degree in Art History, she received a master’s degree in Fine and Decorative Arts from the prestigious Sotheby’s graduate program in New York. Studying with leading curators, art historians, and industry professionals, she honed her curatorial eye and developed a deep passion for design. Both were put to use at Aero Ltd., where she served as director under founder Thomas O’Brien. She was subsequently appointed design director of New York City’s noted Lin-Weinberg Gallery, which specializes in international mid-century modernism.

In 2005, she co-founded the prestigious Design Miami fair, which assembles the most significant galleries specializing in design from the post-war period to the present. Established to run in conjunction with Art Basel Miami Beach, the Design Miami fair has expanded to become a vital forum for exhibiting, discussing, creating, and collecting design.

Recent magazine and television appearances include the cover of LUXEmagazine for a ten-page feature with an in-depth look at one of Amy Lau Design’s bright, colorful interiors. She was also in Metropolitan Home for a lakeside home that was inspired by fall leaves and the panoramic views of nature that surround it. Amy Lau and her residential interiors have also been featured in such publications as Elle Decor, the New York Times, New York Spaces, Gotham, and House & Garden. New Yorkmagazine included her as one of this year’s ” Next Garde” and House Beautiful named her a young designer to watch. Traditional Homerecently recognized her as a ” Fresh Design” honoree, and the firm recently expanded to include retail design with an Elie Tahari fashion boutique that was published in Interior Designmagazine.

The firm has been celebrated twice on the HGTV show” Top Ten.” The first being a ” Sublime Living Room, ” where Amy Lau Design took the number one spot with a beautiful Bridgehampton, New York, interior. Here east-meets-west New York City apartment interior also placed in an episode as one of the most distinguished” Lofts.” Additionally, she has discussed her view of design trends on LX + TV’s ” Open House NYC.”

Amy Lau’s exuberance and expertise have made her a highly requested speaker and panelist for events organized by the likes of Sotheby’s Institute of Art, the International Contemporary Furniture Fair, Metropolitan Home magazine, Dwell magazine, and Bklyn Designs. During SCAD style week, she appeared at the Savannah and Atlanta campuses of Savannah College of Art and Design. She also serves as co-director of the Design Council for New York’s Museum of Arts and Design.

The Amy Lau Studio product line includes colorful limited-edition Four Seasons enameled home furnishings and lighting, a rug design for Doris Leslie Blau, a limited-edition line for Showtime inspired by the networks television show Dexter, and hexagonal-mosaic tiles produced by Heath Ceramics which are on displaying an Amy Lau Design bathroom vignette at the Kohler Design Center, in Wisconsin. The firm’s current initiatives include a collection of contemporary curtains and upholstery textiles to be manufactured by S. Harris – Fabricut, and a wallpaper collection for Maya Romanoff’s 40th Anniversary. This series of wallpaper was launched at Bergdorf Goodman where Amy did an installation displaying the new line.
