Description:

This circa-1930 vintage French Deco rug by Paule Leleu is a study in geometric abstractions in green and red against a beige background in an all-over stepped field design. The daughter of Jules Leleu, arguably the grandfather of the Art Deco design movement, Paule Leleu took over her father's renowned furniture studio and produced a number of award-winning designs in the late 1930s and early 1940s that were knotted by hand domestically. As a product of the early 20th century art movement and her father's singular artistic vision, Paule's work exemplified Art Deco as she continued her father's design legacy. Just as Art Deco furnishings from the Leleu firm have exceptional geometry and sleek lines, Paule Leleu's Art Deco carpets distill shapes and linear motifs to their simplest and most essential form.
