After's opening is probably even' busier' than Before's if
you're counting elements of design. Pilasters, panels,
et al. But the details are plays on shadows and depths —
not chunky and not obvious. Flat paint was replaced by
custom Donald Kaufman high gloss. Our lighting
designers
plied their trade. The space became refined
and welcoming.
And glamorous…
Which brings us to the rug. A pale late nineteenth century
Indian Amritsar rug that was chosen for its warmth and
age
— and for the fact that the pattern allowed us to
reduce the size so that it fit perfectly within the space.
We
pause and take a breath before we cut a carpet down,
factoring in the pros and cons, and then we leap.
A perfect
10" wood border might to the naked eye say
"new
and custom made" - but this rug has obvious age
and
quality. To me it reads "perfect".
