Nain Rugs

How to Spot an Original Nain Rug

Original Nain carpets are the synonyms of exquisite quality and extraordinary image. However, sometimes lower quality carpets of similar character and color scheme are also sold as Nain carpets. Therefore, it is good to know some basic facts about these exceptional rugs and know how to choose a real masterpiece. Nain carpets are characterized by symbols, for example, Nain4La, Nain6La, Nain9La, etc. The lower the number, the better the quality of a rug as the “La” symbol stands for the number of thread layers that were used in each warp thread in the manufacturing process. A low number of a rug means a higher density of knots and that guarantees excellent quality. Nain4La and Nain6La are first-class Nains as they often have over a million knots per square meter.

The Characteristic Shades of Nain Rugs

Nain rugs are usually made of cotton background and a pile made of soft wool and silk. The hues are softer and more faded than in typical Iranian carpets that are bright and rich in colors. Nain rugs usually appear in the shades of beige and soft blue and that always makes a Nain rug elegant but at the same time a safe choice that will suit all the other colors in a room. Blue and cream hues of a carpet can also be used to tone down the space which is too light as well as unite the floor with the walls. The exceptional beauty and the unique style of Nain rugs make them desired gems among people with good taste.
